The Man and Her

He sat on the bench

Knowing it wouldn’t be long

Knowing it is coming

Watching the sunset

The brightest, best he has seen

He smiled, thinking of the last time he sat on the bench and saw the sunset

Together, right before she let the light surround her

Now it is his turn

Then, just as the sun began to fall

Came a brilliant light

Right out of the sun itself

Two young and strong hands, from the middle of the sun

Reaching for his very soul

He reached out and hugged her

“I will take you on a trip, from the sun to the moon.

Just hold on tight!” she said, soft and delicate

But for him, with power and grace

“Forever” he whispered

“No, not your time yet!” she said

They went to the moon and back

Finally, they came back and watched it rise, slowly

He feel asleep, she got carried away

In the arms of the sun

He woke up clutching a wax sculpture

He looked at it and was certain it winked

He walked home holding it close

He looked up at the sky and said

“It will be my time soon.”

This poem is for all the people in the world who have lost someone, near and dear

The Morning Drop

I walk out the door at 5, seeking the freshness of the morning

Waves of energy hit me in the chest ever so lightly

Then ripple out to my arms and feet

They give me the life I need to make it through the day

A strong rippling force, awakening me to the world

I nab a mint leaf, drinking the dew drops on it first

Then popping it in, chewing, letting the freshness blast my taste buds

I lean over the plant for more when I see it

Sitting on the biggest leaf all alone

Radiating authority, but also vulnerability

Looking so pretty

I run back inside to get my camera

But when I came back, it was gone hiding somewhere in the shadows

I would always remember it though

The morning drop

The Airport

When I go to an airport

Even if I am just dropping someone off

I feel heightened, enlightened

Like I’m going somewhere

Somewhere new, somewhere cool

I am going to be in an aircraft

Going somewhere I haven’t gone before

In the airport, I feel free

The Nectar of Adulthood

She opened a flask and

Tipped it toward my mouth

I drank the liquid inside

It was thin at first

But when it reached my throat

It started thickening until it was as thick,

If not thicker, as the thickest honey

Then it descended as slow as a snail

And still managed to leave behind

The feeling, like it was there

Then it was gone

Leaving only the hope,

That it would come back

Leaving only the hole

Which it once filled

But bringing an unimaginable gift

The gift of adulthood

The gift of being free

The gift of responsibility

The gift of adulthood

Thus it is called

The Nectar of Adulthood

Kanchan Boutique

As old as generations

“We follow the trend,

we go by tradition!”

Its a need of a damsel in distress

Who needs a fitted gown

But wants it simple, to ease the stress

Of waiting for a hero

Then, Kanchan sends their best man

With a gown of fashionable silk

When he arrives, with a gleeful face

He repeats our very best slogan

“Nobody understands a woman’s heart

as much as Kanchan does!”

The damsel loves her dress so much

She blesses Kanchan with tears

“May any woman, big or small,

leave Kanchan with many cheers”

The Feeling In You

The anger, hatred, frustration

The sadness, strife and failure

The happiness, love and gratefulness

They can be passed from one to another

When you get mad, so does your friend

But when you are glad, so is everyone else

So whenever you are troubled

Stop to think, think happy, happy

Then start the day with a smile

The Roller Coaster of Life

You slowly climb to the top

The car is rattling without stop

You reach the end and look down

The medium drop equals a frown

And every high peak of the track

Equals a smile, that is a fact

Every jump and leap made

Your feelings that never fade, any kind of strife

This speedy, roller coaster of life

The Land Of Stories

Sit at the typewriter, computer, or paper and pen

Start writing, putting forth emotions from the heart

Or lay down the details of your adventure, comedy, or novel

As you type something strange will happen

While the words swirl onto the crisp white page

A gossamer weaves the words together

The words grow a little bigger, and bigger, till they are the size of lilac petals

They leap off the page, as soft as feathers, wrap themselves around you

They carry you far above the highest star, deeper than the deepest abyss

They whisk you to the land of stories, where stories are born

This is where every single one of my poems has taken me

This is where I am telling, not asking, you to go

Simply start with a single word

Oh, Chithi

You are the best kind of explorer

Never too proud of your achievements

You are always the best kind of helper

For you never fight in disagreements

You are a great puppy lover

Ha ha, just like me

At the top of the list you will hover

Of people who are best friends with me

The height of my day

Is when you come over to play

You jump and you leap

Just like Little Bo Peep

And I love it when you stay
